This orphanage was started by the CST Brothers way back in 1913 in the village of Mookkannur. Presently there are about 300 boys as inmates of this orphanage. The CST Congregation takes care of all the requirements of these children such as their lodging, food, clothing, schooling, healthcare, etc. It is fact to be noted that the children of the orphanage are provided these services irrespective of their religion, caste, etc.
The children of the orphanage carry on their studies in the Sacred Heart Orphanage High School. After schooling, the children are allowed to join the Balanagar Industrial Training Centre and continue their studies in the job-oriented courses conducted by the Industrial Training Centre. Our Overseas Recruitment and Training Division also helps to give them additional training in Advanced Welding, Pipe/Structural Fabrication, etc. These courses increase the chance of their employability abroad and a large number of the inmates have already been deployed abroad. |
